About the Owner
Hello! My name is Gerry and I’m the founder of Ukiyo Boutique.
I grew up in country Queensland, with my mother being a talented seamstress who made all of my clothes. I never felt the need for a big wardrobe; I found a couple of pieces I loved and wore them over and over again.
Ukiyo is, to me, about using beautiful fabrics, creating timeless designs and making small batches - sustainably. The core values of my upbringing are reflected in the core values of Ukiyo. I want to be conscious of my choices and to understand the impact my choices have on people and on the planet. I want to encourage my community to be conscious shoppers, consume less, appreciate quality over quantity, respect the makers and live slower.
I hope to be a truly sustainable label, one day. I know that there are things I need to improve on to get to where I want to be, but I promise you I am always working on it.
